Internationalisation Award

of the President of the Republic

Information about the award

The Internationalisation Award of the President of the Republic is a recognition granted each year to Finnish companies that have gained international success, and to the communities behind them. Since 2015, the proposal on companies and communities to be recognized has been made by the Board of Directors of Team Finland.

Team Finland collects proposals on companies and communities deserving of the award and evaluates them during the autumn. Team Finland's Board of Directors then presents its proposal on award-winners to the President of the Republic. The award is granted by the President of the Republic.

Background information about the award

The Internationalisation Award of the President of the Republic is a recognition granted each year, upon the presentation of Team Finland's Board of Directors, to Finnish companies and communities that have gained international success. The award is granted by the President of the Republic.

Team Finland collects proposals for companies and communities to be recognized, for presentation to the President of the Republic. Proposals are collected widely among Team Finland's own network and among enterprise and business organisations.

The candidate can be an enterprise that has made a promising start on the international scene, or a trailblazing enterprise that already has longer experience of international markets. The internationalization award can also be granted to a community that plays an important role in promoting international competitiveness. A community candidate can be an organisation, enterprise or project.

According to the rules, the internationalisation award is a recognition given for activities benefiting the Finnish economy and industry in an international operating environment. The award is also intended to encourage both the winner and other Finnish companies to enter international markets.

The criteria for receiving the award are the enterprise's success on international markets, profitable growth, the development of Finnish know-how and the responsibility of operations

The Internationalisation Award of the President of the Republic (known as the President's Export Award up to the year 1999) was founded on the initiative of the Association for Finnish Work in 1967. Until 2015, the candidates for the award were presented to the President by Finpro. Since 2015, the proposal on companies and communities to be recognized has been made by the Board of Directors of Team Finland.

Rules

§1

In order to give recognition to valuable work benefiting the Finnish economy and industry in an international operating environment, and to promote the success of new enterprises in internationalisation efforts, the President of the Republic, upon the presentation of Team Finland's Board of Directors, can grant a special award to enterprises and the communities behind them.

§2

The award is given for praiseworthy activities or functions and it can therefore be granted to enterprises or communities, or to units operating under them.

§3

When evaluating the eligibility of candidates, special attention shall be paid to the following:

Enterprises:

the recipient's ability to maintain its international competitiveness by renewing its products, services and operating models; success in its own operating sectors on international markets; the extent of growth potential; professional skills in the management of internationalisation, growth and risks, especially in the areas of business management, marketing, technology and growth financing; ability to cooperate in national and international innovation environments; ethically sustainable activities that take nature values into consideration; impacts on the development of Finnish know-how and quality

Communities:

the recipient's activities or programmes and industrial policies implemented, with extra emphasis on the promotion of competitiveness, increasing competence and employment, the promotion of foreign investments, and increasing awareness of the Finnish innovation environment.

§4

At most three (3) recognitions may be granted annually, of which at least two (2) must be given to enterprises. There is no call for applications for the award.

§5

The Board of Directors of Team Finland submits a proposal for the award-winners to the President of the Republic after having first heard representatives of the Association for Finnish Work and after having requested proposals widely from various enterprise and business organisations.
